The Mud Islands are comprised of three sand bank islands in Port Phillip Bay. Migratory birds come from afar to nest, rest and feed at this sanctuary. Birdwatchers and sightseers alike are afforded an extremely special and breathtaking experience when visiting the Mud Islands.
South Channel Fort
Constructed between 1879 and 1888, South Channel Fort is an artificial island built out of bluestone boulders and concrete. Originally built to aid in the outer defences of Port Phillip, South Channel Fort is now home to unique birdlife including the White-faced Storm Petrels and Penguins.
The oldest marine sanctuary and one of the world-renowned diving and snorkeling site, Popes Eye’s protected waters are teeming with colourful fish and marine life.
