MARINE WARRIORS SCHOOL HOLIDAY PROGRAM

Join us these school holidays to explore our local marine environment and learn more about the wonders of Port Phillip Bay. Bookings Essential. Limited Spaces.

KEEN TO BE A MARINE BIOLOGIST?  yOUR CHILD CAN THESE HOLIDAYS…

Are your children ready to embark on an unforgettable journey this school holiday? Look no further than Sea All’s 1-day School Holiday Program.

Our Marine Warriors program is designed to ignite their curiosity and passion for the Great Southern Reef (GSR) and provide experiences far beyond the classroom. Through a range of exciting activities, they’ll gain valuable knowledge and hands-on experience in marine conservation, all while having an absolute blast!

They’ll dive into one of three dynamic conservation modules, each focused on safeguarding our local marine and coastal ecosystems. The program includes a Wildlife Sightseeing Tour to observe the fascinating creatures of the bay, a Plastic Recycling Workshop to explore recycling processes, and their chosen Conservation Module.

Along the way, they’ll deepen their understanding of marine environments, learn about the animals that call these ecosystems home, and discover practical ways to protect these vital habitats.

Length: 9am – 1:30pm

Ages: 8-12 years (year Level 3-6)

When:  July 5th – 7th 2023 (Term 2 School Holidays)

Size:  Minimum 4 students – Maximum 9 students

Price:  $110 for 1 day

Day Activities

  • Plastic Recycling Workshop
  • Marine Conservation Module
  • Wildlife Sightseeing Tour

Conservation Module 1 – 1st October

Conservation Module 2 – 2nd October

Conservation Module 3 – 3rd October

Activity Description:

Plastic Recycling Workshop: Participants will get hands on with SOEL’s purpose-built Plastic Recycling machinery to manufacture school stationary from 100% ocean bound plastics. Along the way students will learn of each recycling process, plastics effects on the marine environment and be inspired to adopt circular initiatives.

Conservation Module 1 – Harbour Filter Waste Removal and Analysis

Participants collect and analyse pollutants, including litter, macro, and microplastics, from a harbour filter. The data is recorded and submitted to the Victorian Government’s Litter Watch database. This hands-on activity allows participants to contribute to real-world environmental research while learning about pollution’s impact on marine ecosystems and gaining valuable scientific and environmental skills.

Conservation Module 2 – Microplastics Sand Sample

Participants will conduct a microplastic sand sampling, sifting through sand collected at the high tide mark. They will learn about the impact of stormwater runoff on marine ecosystems and identify plastic pollutants. Data collected will be submitted to the national AUSMAP database, contributing to the mapping of marine plastic hotspots across Australia.

Conservation Module 3 – Beach Sweep & Marine Ecology Workshop

Help clean our beaches and contribute data to the Victorian Government’s Litter Watch database on marine waste. SOEL Marine educators will guide participants through a beach clean-up, explaining the origins of waste found on shorelines and how it affects marine life, habitats, and food chains. Participants will learn about marine ecology, including the impacts of plastics on biodiversity, the role of coastal ecosystems in supporting marine species, and how reducing pollution protects these vital environments.

Local Wildlife Sightseeing Tour – Throughout the tour you will watch the playful Australian Fur seals, spot pods of local Burrunan dolphins cruising the bay, be intrigued by the amazing birdlife and marine life around Pope’s Eye, Chinaman’s Hat and southern Port Phillip Bay. Educational interpretations provided throughout.
